Melbourne Victory coach Jim Magilton has revealed to the media that the squad will be assessed after Saturday’s away trip to Perth Glory. The last game of the season according to Magilton is the most important.
The Northern Irishman is hoping momentum will be in their favour against the Glory.
“I hope more of the same; I hope we can take more of that momentum into the Perth game. We obviously played very, very well and I am looking forward to how we react after that”, Magilton said.
Magilton understands though that a trip to Perth is a tough one after a heavy defeat last time they played in January.
”Going to Perth isn’t any easy trip and hopefully we have pride to play for because it was obviously dented going up there last time and we own them one so it will be nice to go up there and win.”
However Magilton believes his side should be confident after they defeated Wellington Phoenix last weekend.
“We should be confident, this week the boys again have trained very well so we are looking forward to the game.”
Magilton pushed aside any talk of transfers and negotiations until next week but did give an indication that his own future will be answered soon.
“Well that will all be answered hopefully by the end of next week so I am sure we all will sit down and have a chat and take it from there,” Magilton revealed.
According to Magilton it is unlikely Mark Milligan will return next season with Victory as his parent club, JEF United Chiba want him back as soon as possible.
“Yeah Millsy’s (Mark Milligan) club is chasing him down and it is the same with everyone, everyone is in the same boat. Next week we will get to together and have a chat to discuss what is going to happen next year.”
Magilton has also been impressed with what he has seen of former Newcastle Jet Adam Griffiths who is training with the club with a view to signing on for next season.
But Magilton has revealed Griffiths is “just one of many” that they are looking at for next season. Griffiths would be a perfect replacement for Milligan as the former Jet can play in similar positions as the Socceroo.
Carlos Hernandez is one player’s future that is important for the club to decide on and Magilton would like the Costa Rican to stay.
“He (Carlos Hernandez) has obviously been here so long, he is obviously a fan favourite and he is obviously a very talented footballer. You don’t want to lose talented footballers,” Magilton said of Hernandez.
When asked about whether any of the Gold Coast United players will be interesting Melbourne Victory Magilton iterated next week is important for recruitment to bring in quality to the squad.
“Hopefully we will be in the market to get in as many good players as we can and that is all next week and it’s whatever you do next week to try and get the right quality into the football club.”
