A ten-men Adelaide United side has been defeated 2-0 by Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium on Thursday evening which cements Glory into the finals.

Glory opened the scoring with the first real chance of the game on 6 minutes. After Bruce Djite was fouled, Jacob Burns passed out wide to former Adelaide Captain Travis Dodd who crossed to Billy Mehmet. The former West Ham United striker tapped home on the goal line but was in an offside position which the referee did not see.

In a scrappy game the next chance was also converted. This time Glory captain Burns finished a fantastic effort on the half-volley with the outside of his foot to double the lead.

Six minutes before the break Sergio van Dijk for Adelaide failed to convert a chance literally given to them by Bas Van den Brink.

On the hour mark Dodd was causing his former side some havoc and played in Adam Hughes, another former Red but the midfielder fired over.

On 76 minutes Adelaide thought they opened the scoring but Nigel Boogaard’s header from a Dario Vidosic corner was ruled out after Danny Vukovic was fouled.

To make things worse for the hosts second-half substitute Fabian Barbiero was sent off for an off the ball incident with Dean Heffernan with five minutes to play.

Perth jump Wellington into third until the Phoenix play on Sunday and have pretty much cemented a spot in the finals. However Adelaide’s season is over as they remain eight points behind sixth placed Newcastle.
