A Clint Bolton penalty save denied Brisbane Roar all three points in an entertaining clash at Suncorp Stadium on Friday evening.

Brisbane could have opened the scoring on 3 minutes when Massimo Murdocca shot from Nick Fitzgerald’s cutback but Bolton got his body in the way. The experienced ‘keeper got back up again immediately to deny Besart Berisha’s follow-up effort.

Mitch Nicholas and Erick Paartalu tried their chances from distance in the opening minutes but to no avail.
Nichols did give his side the lead on 33 minutes. Thomas Broich’s cross was miss-cleared by Simon Colosimo straight to Nichols who finished into the bottom corner.

Roar immediately looked for a second but Fitzgerald’s strike was blocked by Curtis Good. The resulting corner wasn’t dealt with by Bolton but Mohamed Adnan volleyed well over.

But Heart pushed for that equaliser with Mate Dugandzic but the Olyroo’s effort was deflected wide.
With just four minutes before the break Ivan Franjic played in Berisha who shot on the turn but Bolton charged out to deny the Albanian.

Right after the restart Brisbane with Berisha got into a great position once again but the Heart defence did well to block the effort.

Michael Theoklitos then denied Heart twice inside two minutes with two brilliant saves. The former Melbourne Victory goalkeeper firstly clawed Eli Babalj’s close range finish from a great Dugandzic cross. Then he fisted Jonatan Germano’s downward header from the resulting corner.

But from Heart’s third corner in a row Dugandzic’s ball was headed home by Good to equalise into the corner where the post was unmarked.

After Rutger Worm came on for Skipper Fred the Dutchman had too good chances to score. But from Dugandzic’s cross the 26-year-old couldn’t get on the end of the ball.

Worm next miss-headed Dugandzic’s free-kick so the game remained level with 15 minutes to go.

On 78 minutes Babalj had probably the best chance of the game when he blocked Adnan’s clearance and got past Theoklitos but hit his effort into the side netting.

Brisbane went right up the other end with James Meyer who cut in from the right but his effort was comfortably saved by Bolton.

With seconds ticking down second-half substitute Issey Nakajima-Farran cut in from the left but fired right into the hands of Bolton.

In stoppage time Roar had the best chance to take the lead from the spot after Colosimo brought down Berisha.

Adnan stepped up to the spot but Bolton denied the Bahraini with a brilliant save to his right.
