The youngsters were given a go!

The Hyundai A-League round 19 gave the spectators a taste of youth with several clubs giving youngsters a go.

Melbourne Victory gave Jimmy Jeggo his first A-League start, same with Sydney with Joel Chianese, Trent Sainsbury was given an opportunity with Pedj Bojic out and Daniel Bowels for Gold Coast United put in a Man of the Match performance.

Looks like Melbourne Victory listened! Jimmy Jeggo was given his first start and had a good game. He showed to the 14 thousand at AAMI Park his great passing game and his ability to run for 90 minutes. With Victory winning for the first time with Jim Magilton and with Brisbane Roar up next it will be assumed the Jeggo will be kept in the starting eleven.

Joel Chianese (pronounced Cianese) too made his starting A-League debut and had a couple chances to score but unfortunately could not. Sydney like Victory won and for the first time in three games so the 21-year-old will probably keep his spot, although captain Terry McFlynn should be back from suspension.

Trent Sainsbury for Central Coast Mariners made his ninth A-League appearance and his second of the season in the absence of the inform Pedj Bojic. The 20-year-old however was controversially given a straight red card for a challenge on Victory defender Fabio.

Mariners youngster Sam Gallagher came on to make his A-League debut too after Sainsbury was sent off and would have been a chance to replace Gallagher if Bojic was not fit. However he too was sent off in the NYL nil-all draw with Victory on Sunday at Kingston Heath.

Daniel Bowles and Daniel Bragg made their first starts as Gold Coast United are down to their youngsters and skin and bone with their senior squad.

Bowles put in a Man of the Match performance and will most likely be called upon again this weekend again Melbourne Heart with skipper Michael Thwaite suspended.

Jake Barker-Daish, Miron Bleiberg and Mitch Cooper

Bragg who diagnosed with acute renal failure in 2008 and subsequently had to have a kidney replacement took a step further on his fairytale comeback. Bragg’s father Matthew Bragg donated his kidney to his son and pretty much saved the then 15-year-old’s life.

Mitch cooper on Friday night will make his A-League debut for Gold Coast United with Victorian Jake Barker-Daish. But Cooper will also be captain in his A-League debut!

The 17-year-old has been given the captaincy on the idea of Gold Coast United owner Clive Palmer who believes it is a ‘symbolic gesture’. The Coasters are likely to have only two players over the age of 23 with Kristian Rees and Maceo Rigters the two over.

"He said if we are playing with such a young team this weekend - and that's what Gold Coast United is all about, to give career paths to young players - we might as well let one of them be captain for the weekend,” coach Miron Bleiberg said of Palmer’s idea.

Josh Risdon
There was also great news for Perth Glory and Josh Risdon who signed a new deal to the end of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season. Risdon who has cemented his spot in the right back position with Scott Neville injured is obviously delighted.

"I'm really happy to be where I'm at and I'm really enjoying my football ... obviously it's great to sign with the club for another two years," Risdon told the media after inking a new deal.

So let’s just hope in this next round clubs continue to give the youngsters a go.
