Melbourne Victory’s Archie Thompson is in doubt for Saturday’s crunch tie against A-League Champions Brisbane Roar after the Socceroo walked off the training pitch early in this morning’s training session with a tight hamstring.
Marco Rojas told the media after training that Thompson’s injury is very significant and the Socceroo is still an important for the team.
“It’s very significant, he is one of our best players and although he hasn’t scored for a while he has been still very threatening and is getting into those positions and he is a great player and a great person to be around for a young player so he is very important for the team.”
The New Zealander is also confident that his side can win two in a row for the first time this season against the mighty Brisbane Roar and kick start their season.
“Yeah, I am confident it will, it’s going to be a tough game against Brisbane but we will be here on the training park getting ready as much as we can to go and win the game.”
On his own form the 20-year-old believes it hasn’t been the best of seasons but is getting more confident with each game.
“It hasn’t been the best of seasons for me and I have played a few games in a row now and I am starting to get a bit more confident and get going and hopefully I will be able to finish it with some final passes and some goals.”
Rojas also isn’t surprised that his former club Wellington Phoenix has had a great season like they have had.
“Yeah, I’m not too surprised by it. They are a tight bunch of guys and they work hard for each other. I guess you see on the pitch that they are willing to do what they can for each other and it allows them to grind out victories and win those games and they are doing well and I am happy for them and hopefully that can continue.”
