Gold Coast United’s and Olyroo midfielder James Brown has inked a
two-year-deal with the Newcastle Jets. The Olyroo will join after the currently
season has finished.
No Gold Coast United players will be offered new
deals until the end of the season and with all except Ben Halloran contracted
to next season a mass-exodus is expected.
Brown decided he needed to ensure he has a club
for next season and inked a deal with Gary van Egmond’s side.
“James is a local boy and United is his first
club but with all the speculation about the club’s future and the fact that no
new contracts are currently being discussed he felt he had to make sure he had
a place to play next season and he’s the sort of player that will perfectly fit
into the Newcastle set up," a source on the Gold Coast said.
“He wants some stability, as ever player does,
and right now that doesn’t exist at Gold Coast United.”
Skipper Michael Thwaite, Ben Halloran and Golgol
Mebrahtu are tipped to go next.
Although Halloran is contracted interest is increasing while
Thwaite who would prefer to stay in Queensland could be off to Japan or Korea
with great interest.
